Book of Mormon - Alma 22:15-18

June 27, 2010: I absolutely love his story about the conversion of the Lamanite King. I love to see how humble he becomes and so willing to give up his sins to receive the Spirit of the Lord. I pray that I too can be humble enough to give up my sins so that I can be filled with the Spirit and have joy. Receiving those gifts will be far better than any temporary pleasure and I want and need those eternal gifts.

Good Works #3

3. Read Mosiah 18:7-10, and in your journal list three ways you can comfort others or help them bear their burdens. Do the things on your list, and tell a family member or leader about the experience and how your attitude and understanding have changed.

April 4, 2010: Goals
~ Ways I can comfort others or help them bear their burdens ~
1. Be a listening ear. Listen attentively when others need to share their difficult situations.
2. Smile at acquaintances and strangers I meet on the street, at the store, at church, at work, etc.
3. Look for opportunities to serve others - simple things such as opening a door or giving directions or helping wherever I see a need.

June 24, 2010: Results
After striving for several weeks now to 1) be a listening ear, 2) smile at others, 3) look for opportunities to help, I find that these weeks have overall been very pleasant. I know I have been happier and more full of hope and I have even made some new friends and strengthened other relationships. It is a blessing and privilege to serve others and be instruments to help those in need.

Book of Mormon - Alma 19

June 23, 2010: I feel like I am reading this story of King Lamoni for the first time - I saw so many new things and could really picture all that was going on. What an amazing conversion of the King and his household. I especially love to see how eager they all are to share the gospel. We all need to be just as eager. What a wonderful gift we have in being members of the true church. We should be declaring this happiness to all.

I also like the statement that their hearts had been changed, they had no more desire to do evil. As we live the gospel our hearts do change for we are filled with the love of God who changes us.

Book of Mormon - Alma 7:17

June 7, 2010: "Because your faith is strong...great is my joy." It is interesting how joyful I feel to see my young women demonstrate their faith in the Lord. I absolutely know what Alma was talking about here - and the Savior says it later. It is a blessing to see those you love following the path of righteousness and growing in their faith.

Book of Mormon - Alma 1:29-31

May 28, 2010: The people are righteous and keeping the commandments and so the Lord blesses and prospers them and they become "far more wealthy than those who did not belong to their church." However, the people of God were still quick to help the needy. I don't know that I have ever seen this story before but it really struck me today. The Lord blesses us so we can bless and help others. I need to be better at giving and helping those in need with what I have. I have seen blessings come from generosity and so I need to put my trust in the Lord, drop my walls of selfishness, and give to those in need.

Book of Mormon - Mosiah 24:21-22

May 18, 2010: Which brings me to gratitude. Alma's people all thanked the Lord and praised Him. I too thank my Heavenly Father for helping me to find the time and energy to accomplish it all. What a tremendous blessing it has been and I do recognize I could never have done it without Divine help. I am very humbled and grateful.

Book of Mormon - Mosiah 24:13,15

May 18, 2010: Because the people of Alma were quick to hear the voice of the Lord and obey His commandments, the Lord was quick to hear their prayers and answer them. I pray for faith and strength to always be quick to do the Lord's will so that He will bless me with those things I need. Right now, I feel I need a blessing similar to Alma's people: I need the Lord to help me bear my burdens with ease. And yet, I do feel that this blessing has been granted to me. Somehow I have found a way to juggle work, church calling, school, husband, family, etc. I know I have had to give and take in many places but for the most part, I truly have been blessed to have these burdens feel much lighter than they should.

Book of Mormon - Mosiah 14:3-6

May 11, 2010: These are my all-time favorite verses and come from Isaiah. They are so poetic and harsh yet beautiful. With the pain and anguish the Lord went through we truly are healed. Jesus Christ made it possible for us to overcome sin. I am grateful for this Plan of Salvation and my Savior Jesus Christ who is right there in the center of it - cheering me on and helping me be better.

Book of Mormon - Mosiah 13:14

May 11, 2010: The Lord will be merciful to those that love Him and keep His commandments. This is a simple verse but gives a beautiful promise with a simple requirement. We must love God and be obedient. Then He shall have mercy on us. He will make up for where we lack and bless us with exaltation. We just have to do those two little things: love and obedience.

Book of Mormon - Mosiah 2-5

May 2, 2010: I have been reading through King Benjamin's great sermon the last several mornings and haven't had a chance to comment so now that I have time I am going to look back at some things I marked and my impressions.

** Mosiah 2:17, 20-22 ~ SERVE. We must serve others, to serve our God, and to keep the commandments and thereby prosper in the land. A simple formula, really. We only have to look beyond ourselves.

** Mosiah 2:41 ~ HAPPINESS. We all want to be happy in life, to be blessed temporally and spiritually. According to King Benjamin we only have to keep the commandments and hold out faithful to the end. Again, another simple prescription to receive never-ending happiness. And though not every day or minute will be filled with felicity we will still have that underlying peace knowing that we have done our best and must now trust in the Lord.

** Mosiah 3:12, 13, 17, 19. King Benjamin clearly states that we must use the power of the atonement to repent and become as a child - moldable and teachable. Sometimes I wish I understood the atonement better than I do. But I do know that it works and that I can repent and be forgiven and be clean to receive the temporal and spiritual blessings the Lord has in store for me. Now, that is happiness and peace - and it only comes through the Savior.

** Mosiah 4:11-12. Look at all these great blessings obedience brings: knowledge of God's glory and goodness, God's love, remission of sins, exceeding joy, rejoicing, knowledge of the truth. Don't you think it is more than worth it to repent and endure to the end?

** Mosiah 5:8. Through Christ we are made Free! I love that statement and to understand all the wonderful things that come with freedom. And because Christ rescues us from the bonds of sin we truly are free to live and love and learn. What a beautiful picture that presents!

** Mosiah 5:15. Do what is right so the Lord can seal you His. I love that picture too. We are sealed as families to one another and as we are obedient we can also be sealed to Chrsit. That is a beautiful gift and I do want to be sealed to Him as much as my wonderful husband and family.
